Just a quick note for your orders; def.i.ni.ción will be heading out to Myanmar tomorrow morning to aid in the relief and rebuilding efforts. If you didn't know, Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar in early May resulting in over 90,000 deaths and with 56,000 people still unaccounted for. Villages and buildings were blown over by fierce winds or washed away in floodwaters. def.i.ni.ción will be going over to assist in aid/relief distribution and help out in any other way.

What this means for you is that your order won't go out until the 18th of July as we'll be returning to the States on the 17th. So go ahead and place your order online but give it some time for the shirts to get to you. Thanks for the support and please spread the word about what's going on Myanmar. There is still much to be done.

May was a busy month for def.i.ni.ción but it was all good. Got to meet a lot of cool people at cool events and even sell some shirts. Through all the busyness of May, I got to thinking that def.i.ni.ción wasn't doing enough...that we should do more. I then began to think, how can def.i.ni.ción do more?

Now please understand that we are a for-profit company. Perhaps what we practice is capitalism with a conscience? Whatever you call it, ever since the beginning of def.i.ni.ción, we've given at least 10% of your purchase back to a variety of organizations working all over the world. I can't think of any for-profit company that does this but after last month, I felt in my heart that we could do better so we're gonna double that percentage to 20%.

For the month of June, def.i.ni.ción will donate 20% of your purchase back to our partners. I haven't exactly crunched all of the numbers to see how financially viable this is to run a company but I figure it's worth a try to see where it goes.

So if you've been waiting to order a shirt, get one this month and know that we'll be doubling your donation! Cool, huh?

Please take a look at what the Red Cross/Crescent and World Vision are doing in typhoon ravaged Myanmar. Due to the tight governance of the military there, foreign aid has been limited. Because of their reputation, organizations like the Red Cross/Crescent and World Vision have been able to access disaster areas and provide immediate aid for those affected by the typhoon. Please take a moment and see what they are doing there and how you can help.

We felt it here in Chengdu where the earthquake was less powerful yet still made the buildings shake. Some of our students under our sponsorship programme were right in the epicentre areas and we are unable currently to know how they are but we expect the worst given the reports coming out of those areas right now. This is just an update from your friends at def.i.ni.ción. We’ve been busy getting the word out on our current lineup of shirts and partners. Our most recent shirt is our say-ree paap shirt, which is Thai for "freedom”. This shirt is helping to raise money and awareness for NightLight, an organization working in Bangkok, Thailand to get children and women out of the sex-slave trade there. They are modern-day abolitionists.

Shifting gears now...I am going to try a little experiment and hold a def.i.ni.ción’s Next Top Model contest. As it stands right now, I’m using mannequins as my shirt models and they’re just no fun. They don’t complain which is nice but that’s just about it. I need a little personality so here’s where you come in...

Send pics of you rocking a def.i.ni.ción shirt to talk@mydefinicion.com. If you want to include contact info about yourself like a myspace page, personal website, then let me know and I’ll include that in the pic as well. To make it even more interesting, include an interesting word that you like or defines you.

Now let’s not have any x-rated pics but let’s not have the boring driver’s license photos either. Be sure to take a front and back picture.

In other news, if you are in the SoCal area and wouldn't mind having def.i.ni.ción come out to your campus club, church, youthgroup, fraternity, bridge club, tupperware party, etc., to talk about its partners and sell some shirts, please send us a message. I'd love to come out and talk about stuff that's going on all over the world, answer questions, and basically make a complete idiot of myself.

For the record, def.i.ni.ción is not communist. We are not in the business of propagating any political, social or economic agenda.

However, def.i.ni.ción is savvy to seeing a need and creating opportunities for conversations focused around said needs. Our shirts' aesthetic is the match to the fuse of dialogue. In this case, the firecracker is North Korea and I am encouraged to hear that conversations are being had because you did something as simple as putting on this shirt.

So the next time you wear the "hwamok” shirt out in public and someone accuses you of being a communist, calmly pull them aside and say, "I’m glad you mentioned that because there’s something going on in North Korea…”
